Boston’s two film critics’ circles (I belong to both) have voted their year end awards! The BOSTON SOCIETY OF FILM CRITICS (BSFC) have named “La La Land” starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone and directed by Best Director Damien (“Whiplash”) Chazelle as BEST PICTURE! The Boston Online Film Critics Association (BOFCA) has named “Moonlight” BEST PICTURE with Best Ensemble for the magnificent trio of actors who star.
“Moonlight” is definitely more my speed than the relentless sun of “La La Land”; but both critics groups and I concur on many awards including Best Actor Casey Affleck in “Manchester By The Sea,” and Best Actress Isabelle Huppert‘s sublime turn in “Elle.” A number of these films have not yet been released in the greater Boston market, so don’t worry– you have not missed them. I will review as they emerge, but for now here’s what to be on the lookout for if you have not seen them already!
