(11/14) THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

He’s the English-speaking Einstein–British physicist Stephen Hawking–whose book A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME made us all think we could almost understand the theory of everything. This biopic stars the talented Eddie Redmayne as the scientist and Felicity Jones as his first wife Jane– before ALS landed him in a wheelchair where he continued to blow our minds.

(11/19) THE IMITATION GAME

Another Brit blows our minds– Benedict Cumberbatch may be distantly related to his tragic character, theoretical mathematician Alan Turing who put his flair for numbers to good use in WWII by building on the work of Polish mathematicians to crack the Nazi Enigma Code! Keira Knightley co-stars as his assistant.

(12/12) WILD

Reese Witherspoon goes WILD and heads out ALONE on an 1100 mile trek to recover from a personal trauma. Ancillary benefits: rock hard glutes and another potential Oscar nomination!

(12/25) UNBROKEN

The book by Lauren Hillenbrand–a mindblower of a true tale–is now a movie about Olympian Louis Zamperini (Jack O’Connell)whose mental/physical stamina was tested light years beyond the Olympics after being captured by the Japanese in WWII. Behind the scenes, a crew of champions orchestrates the agony: Angelina Jolie directs a script by, among others, Joel and Ethan Coen!

(12/25) BIG EYES

Remember those cheesy, big-eyed paintings your aunt had hanging in her bedroom? Well Amy Adams (looking a bit like one of them) plays painter Margaret Keane who dreamed them up,  and Christoph Waltz plays her husband who tried to claim the work as his own.  Tim Burton directs. I see Oscars.

(12/25) AMERICAN SNIPER

Clint Eastwood directs Bradley Cooper in this true story of United States Navy Seal Chris Kyle, the most deadly sniper in U.S. military history who became legendary and a prime target of enemy insurgents, all while saving countless lives during four tours of duty in Iraq. Sienna Miller plays his long suffering-wife, trying to survive at home.

(12/25) INTO THE WOODS

Meryl Streep plays the witch and Johnny Depp plays the wolf in Stephen Sondheim’s gloriously “Grimm” musical about what happens after the “happily ever after.” Rob Marshall directs this fairy tale cast including Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, and Anna Kendrick. Did I mention Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp? Merry Christmas.
