12 YEARS A SLAVE tops the list of Boston Society of Film Critics Awards  with three awards including Best Picture of 2013, Best Director– Steve McQueen, and Best Actor– Chiwetel Ejiofor for his role as Solomon Northup in this true story of a free black man kidnapped and sold into slavery.

Seventeen of the 21 members of the BSFC gathered at the Back Bay’s hip, comfy Revere Hotel and settled in for a long morning-into-afternoon of voting, arguing, voting, coffee, and voting! The BSFC year-end awards along with those of other critics groups around the country are the first harbingers of the way the Oscar winds are blowing, sometimes pointing Oscar voters in a particular direction, and thus the first place to look for potential Oscar nominations.
